Personal brand or Influencer?

“Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.”

Oscar Wilde’s advice

Exploring a treasure trove!

We are all sitting on our very own great, big treasure troves, whether we're aware of it or not!

Hard-to-value gems and rarities such as…

  • our personality,

  • our worldview,

  • our ideas,

  • our interests and passions,

  • our likes and dislikes,

  • our experiences,

  • our connections with others, and so on.

We also have a set of skills, things that we've learned how to do, and applied ourselves to in varying degrees.

Each of us has talents, our natural aptitude or ability for doing certain things.

This full chest of rich treasures makes up the unique foundation of who we are and is the place to look when considering your personal brand.

Tell me more…

Our personal brand is different to our business brand, in that it is literally that, personal to us. It’s derived from who you are, not by overwriting the real you with an artificial version.

Oscar Wilde’s wise advice was to: “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.”

Part of the problem with the term “personal branding” is that it's quite broad. It often gets a bad rap as it can be associated with the growth in influencers seeking fame for the sake of it.

The type of personal branding I am referring to is professional personal branding — for solopreneurs and small to medium size business owners. A personal brand is also an extremely valuable tool as part of a career plan.

There’s a need to identify yourself, define your space, and explain why you’re the right choice for the right clients.

It's easy to look at others and think that they have so much more personality. It's not true though.

Your personal brand strategy is similar to a business brand strategy, which is to build a strong and differentiated brand.

Your personal brand can enhance your business brand and both brands can enrich one another.

You have plenty of material to work with, if you just see what you are sitting on!

Taking the time to decide how much of yourself to highlight and what stays private, as part of your personal brand strategy or plan, is time well spent.
